Tejuelo ships an MCP server inside the app. While Tejuelo runs, an assistant like Claude Code or Codex can list your bookmarks, add new ones and file them into categories. There is no hosted API and no SDK: the server runs on your Mac and nowhere else.
When to use it
- Filing a batch of links an assistant found during research, each under the right category.
- Finding a bookmark by name, URL or category from inside a chat or a terminal session.
- Cleaning up: renaming or merging categories, moving bookmarks between them, deleting the ones you no longer need.
It is the wrong tool for reading the content of a page, syncing bookmarks to another app, or anything off the Mac that runs Tejuelo.
Set it up
- Open Tejuelo’s Settings and go to the MCP tab.
- Turn on Let AI Assistants Edit Bookmarks.
- Pick your assistant and click Copy Setup Command. The command carries your token.
- Paste it in a terminal once.
For Claude Code the command looks like this:
claude mcp add --transport http tejuelo http://127.0.0.1:8787/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer <token>"
For Codex, the token goes in the environment:
echo 'export TEJUELO_TOKEN=<token>' >> ~/.zshrc
codex mcp add tejuelo --url http://127.0.0.1:8787/mcp --bearer-token-env-var TEJUELO_TOKEN
Any other client takes the JSON block from the Other tab:
{
"mcpServers": {
"tejuelo": {
"type": "http",
"url": "http://127.0.0.1:8787/mcp",
"headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer <token>" }
}
}
}
Tools
| Tool | What it does | Required arguments |
|---|---|---|
list_bookmarks | Lists bookmarks, newest first. Filters by query, category; 50 by default (limit). | none |
add_bookmark | Adds a bookmark. The same URL twice updates the first one. The page title is fetched when name is left out. Categories are added, never removed. | url |
update_bookmark | Changes the name, the URL (new_url) or the categories. The categories given replace the ones it has. | url |
delete_bookmark | Deletes a bookmark. This cannot be undone. | url |
list_categories | Lists the categories, with the number of bookmarks in each and whether each one is hidden. | none |
rename_category | Renames a category on every bookmark. Renaming onto a name already in use merges the two. | from, to |
delete_category | Removes a category. The bookmarks stay, uncategorized. | name |
set_category_hidden | Hides a category from the search panel, or shows it again. | name, hidden |
Protocol details
- Transport: Streamable HTTP, one JSON response per POST. No SSE stream.
- Endpoint:
http://127.0.0.1:8787/mcp. The port is fixed. - Protocol version:
2025-06-18. - Auth:
Authorization: Bearer <token>. The token is generated on first use and shown only in Settings. - Requests that carry an
Originheader get403, so a web page in a browser can never reach your bookmarks. - The server only answers while Tejuelo is running. If another program holds port 8787, Settings says so.
